Dunsborough Farmhouse

South West, Western Australia

  • Project Description
  • Inspired by Meelup Farmhouse in Naturaliste Western Australia, a favourite local restaurant, this rural property in need of a comprehensive outdoor renovation reflects a design rooted in charm and functionality. The project contends with a challenging, sloping topography, prompting a thoughtful reimagining of the solid existing brick home and upgrades to its façade.

Our design revitalizes the alfresco area by painting the existing cedar-lined roof to enhance the sense of height and extending the timber deck to create an inviting relaxation zone with bench-style seating. An open timber pergola further extends the alfresco, offering an enhanced outdoor experience.

The design also integrates a concrete swimming pool and firepit area, addressing the site’s elevation changes with a raised pool that functions as a retaining structure, complemented by an off-form concrete firepit seat. The landscape will be implemented in stages, beginning with the property’s perimeter and eventually culminating in the installation of the exquisite swimming pool.

Gardens are planned with hardy plants and trees suited to the local climate, accommodating the harsh summer conditions and the heavy winter rains, ensuring the space remains vibrant throughout the year.
